Seven Years Later
In Mumbai, Savi, now a teacher, engages her students with a unique lesson. She uses sand drawing to narrate the story of Ganeshji, from his birth, Shivji beheading him, and replacing his head with an elephant’s, explaining why Ganesh Chaturthi is celebrated. After class, the parents praise Savi’s distinctive teaching style.
The principal introduces Savi as the newly appointed teacher. One parent asks for Savi’s full name, and she responds, “Savi Bhosale.” The principal mentions these are newly admitted parents and asks Savi to address their questions. Savi agrees.
A Cafe Meeting
Isha waits anxiously at a cafe. Shantanu calls her repeatedly, but she doesn’t respond until he addresses her as “Savi’s mother.” Annoyed, she asks why he’s shouting. Shantanu remarks that calling her by her daughter’s name got her attention.
Isha laments that her identity is now tied to Savi and worries that their matchmaker, Shefali, is late, potentially costing Savi good marriage prospects. Loud music from a DJ triggers Isha’s anxiety, reminding her of a bomb incident and the loss of her son. Shantanu asks the DJ to lower the volume and calms Isha down.
Shefali finally calls, saying she won’t make it today but has found a perfect match for Savi—Neeraj, an investment banker, teetotaler, vegetarian, and nonsmoker, who likes Savi. She sends Neeraj’s profile, and Isha is hopeful. She opens a fortune cookie, receives a good prediction, and wishes for Savi’s happiness.
A Teacher’s Dedication
A student’s parent praises Savi’s storytelling skills and asks about her own children. Savi replies that all her students are like her children and she feels incomplete without them. Isha calls Savi, urging her to come home soon for some good news.
Back Home
Shantanu and Isha arrive at their apartment and take the elevator. Isha excitedly plans to make Savi look perfect for her meeting with Neeraj’s family. As they exit the elevator, they hear loud music from a neighbor’s apartment. Isha feels another headache coming on. Shantanu hurriedly unlocks their door, urging Isha to ignore the noise. Their neighbor, Mrs. Thakkar, is dancing garba with her friends to the song “Kamariya Re Thari Kamariya.”
Isha confronts Mrs. Thakkar
Isha decides to teach the neighbor a lesson and marches over to Mrs. Thakkar’s place, switching off the blaring music. Mrs. Thakkar demands to know who turned off the music, and Isha promptly admits she did. An argument ensues as they repeatedly switch the music on and off. Isha asserts that loud music is not allowed in the common area, while Mrs. Thakkar counters that Isha’s book reading sessions are equally disruptive.
Isha retorts that Mrs. Thakkar doesn’t understand the value of reading, and Mrs. Thakkar fires back that Isha doesn’t appreciate music, advocating for a “live and let live” philosophy. Their bickering continues until Savi intervenes, suggesting they compromise by using earplugs during each other’s activities. She drags Isha away as Mrs. Thakkar continues to taunt.
Back Home: A New Proposal
Once home, Savi notices a beautiful sari and asks why Isha didn’t bring it for her. Isha explains that they visited a café where a fortune cookie predicted that all her wishes would come true today. Savi, curious, asks if that’s why Isha called her over.
Isha reveals she has found a potential match for Savi—a perfect investment banker. Savi, hesitant, asks if Isha informed him about her being a widow and unable to have children. Isha assures her she has told him everything and encourages Savi to try on the new sari.
Savi, dressed in the sari, gazes at Ishaan’s photo. She reflects on the seven years since their separation, feeling both happy and sad. She muses on how her mother is trying to fulfill a promise made to Ishaan by finding her a new match, but she struggles with the pain of her mother’s daily frustrations and depression. She doesn’t mind being rejected, but she can’t bear to see her mother in pain. Despite not wanting to remarry, she feels unable to explain this to her mother.
At the Restaurant
Shantanu approaches Savi, expressing his desire to see her life settled. He urges her to smile and meet the prospective suitor for everyone’s sake. Despite her reluctance, they head to the restaurant, arriving 30 minutes early as usual. Isha comments on their early arrival, noting they got a table because of it. However, her mood sours when she spots Mrs. Thakkar at a nearby table.
Savi and Shantanu try to calm her down. Mrs. Thakkar notices Isha and wonders if she’s there for another book reading session.
Shefali enters the restaurant, and both Isha and Mrs. Thakkar wave at her. Shefali approaches Mrs. Thakkar first, prompting Shantanu to speculate that Shefali might have brought Mrs. Thakkar’s son as a suitor for Savi. Isha, worried and annoyed, vows to push both Shefali and Mrs. Thakkar away if the boy turns out to be Mrs. Thakkar’s son.
